The “Tykocin” project intends to create an extraordinary musical happening on the days from the 4th of July until the 7th. The main character of this artistic undertake is the internationally renowned jazz musician, the trumpeter Randy Brecker. One of the inhabitants of Tykocin, who migrated to the United States before WW2, was Jakub Tykocki. Until the beginning of WW2 the city of Tykocin was a typical for the Podlasie region place of many coexisting nationalities, among others the Jewish community. The fascist racial discrimination politics led to the murder of over 2000 polish inhabitants of Jewish descendance of Tykocin in the year 1941. After the war the city of Tykocin didn’t manage to regenerate its social structure and its so clear in the past centuries coexistention of cultures, nations and religions which was characteristic for the tradition of polish tolerance.
Tykocki, living in the USA, had two grandsons: Randy and Michael Brecker, who were in the ‘70 and ‘80 - one of the most famous jazzbands - the “Brecker Brothers”.
Randy Brecker will take part in the recording together with the Włodek Pawlik Trio in the complement: Włodek Pawlik - piano, Paweł Pańta - double bass and Cezary Konrad - drums, and they will be accompanied by the Symphonical Orchestra of the Opera and Philharmonia of the Podlasie region under the baton of Marcin Nałęcz - Niesiołowski.
On the 4th of July 2008 the first promotional concert is planned in the Podlaska Opera and Philharmonia with the participation of Randy Brecker and the other musicians. On this day falls the next american Independance Day, and the concerts in the Podlasie region, with its artists who are this renowned in the musical world, are an extraordinary promotion of american culture. The honorary patronage over this musical happening is taken on by the USA Ambassador in Poland, mr. Victor Ashe. The second concert will take place on the 6th of July 2008 in the historical synagogue in Tykocin. This will be a musical comeback of Randy Brecker to his family roots and the emphasis on the multicultural character of the Podlasie region.
